WellSpace Health officially broke ground on a new Community Wellness Campus designed to close some of the region’s most persistent gaps in care. Located on 13-acres in Sacramento’s Little Saigon neighborhood, the Campus will be the first of its kind in the region, providing coordinated behavioral health, medical, and dental services for Medi-Cal recipients and uninsured residents.
This marks the beginning of a new era for integrated healthcare in Sacramento County, reflecting WellSpace Health’s longstanding commitment to addressing some of the community’s greatest health challenges through innovative, equitable models of care while supporting the County’s efforts to expand access to healthcare resources.
In partnership with Sacramento County, a 32-bed Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC) will be the first Campus program accessible to the public, with doors set to open in 2027. At 24,700-square-foot, the residential treatment facility is designed for adults who require a higher level of mental healthcare than is currently available through WellSpace’s Co-Occurring Behavioral Health Continuum. This creates a new level of residential treatment for adults who need more support than outpatient care can provide.
Over the next two years, the Campus will expand to include a state-of-the-art 988 Suicide and Crisis Communications Center, a second Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health program location, additional outpatient substance use disorder treatment services, and a 200-bed residential substance use disorder treatment program.
Future phases of the Campus will add a community health center offering primary and dental care, affordable senior housing for neighborhood residents, and a reentry program designed to help individuals successfully transition back into the community.
Not only will the project provide a critical source of healthcare, it will also reform a struggling property that has been vacant for more than a decade. This rehabilitation will bring new life to the neighborhood and support surrounding businesses by attracting more foot traffic composed of patients and employees.
The Community Wellness Campus has received strong support from leaders across the region, including representatives from Sacramento County, the City of Sacramento, and the State of California. Together, WellSpace is forming valuable partnerships that expand equitable access to care and address the growing need for healthcare services.
