Dental Hygienist

Summary Statement:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform advanced prophylactic dental treatment to patients. The Hygienist instruct patients, individually and in groups, in proper oral hygiene care using materials such as teeth models, displays, disclosing solutions, toothbrushes, and floss. Performs complete oral prophylaxis to include: supragingival and sub-gingival scaling using ultrasonic scaler’s and hand instruments, polishes the teeth with abrasive pastes and rubber cups, and applies topical fluoride treatments. Provides therapeutic and preventive procedures for patients in all classifications of periodontal disease. Provides treatment for patients with advanced periodontal disease complicated by other dental and medical problems. Prepares patients for periodontal surgery by performing deep scaling and root planning therapy. The individual may be working on Fridays and Saturdays in the future. The Hygienist will travel as needed.

In 2010 we have opened the first pediatric dentist clinic in the Sacramento area for our community.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Training, and Licensure):

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Dental Assistant Training Program with an accredited institute with one year of related experience in a dental office.
  • Registered as a Dental Hygienist in the state of California.
  • Certification from the Dental Assisting National Board is preferred.
  • California X-Ray license.
  • Pit and Fissure Sealant License
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
  • Will be required to travel offsite for staff and provider meetings and other dental centers to accommodate care.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology as well as office practices and procedures.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Able to operate various dental instruments and equipment.
  • Able to work in fourhanded dentistry.
  • Proficient in digital charting and digital radiography.
  • Experience in pediatric setting with medically compromised patients preferred.
  • Ability to function effectively in a position involving continuous movement.
  • Ability to work courteously and effectively as a team member to support the quality/efficiency standards established for the dental center, work independently, exercise good judgement, perform clerical work in a methodical, independent and thorough manner with speed and accuracy.
